Cueva Guarache, Spanish for Sandal Cave, sits on the river's edge southeast of Ranger Substation Osprey and east of the Zion General Store. Randall Clark, the Survivalist, fled here in 2096 after a Vault 22 patrol nearly found him at Stone Bones Cave. His terminal in the back holds the logs for 2097, 2100 and 2101, which tell how he found Sylvie caught in one of his bear traps, nursed her back to health, came to think of her as his wife, and lost both her and their unborn son Michael in childbirth.

A steep corridor leads down to a fork. Straight ahead is a wall of brush hiding two bear traps and a tripwire rigged to a pair of shotguns, then a Hard-locked door that opens directly into the Survivalist's camp. The left path drops deeper into the cave: one branch holds a spore plant and a spore carrier runt, the other a huge chamber of spore carriers, giant spore plants and spore carrier brutes. A balcony on its east side leads to a gate guarded by a plasma mine, with explosives boxes and supply sacks.

The camp itself has explosives crates, one of them Very Easy-locked, a campfire sack, a workbench with a workbench crate, and a raised platform with a bed and the terminal. One of Randall Clark's six survival caches sits on that platform near the terminal. A gun case with an Average lock sometimes holds a multiplas rifle. As in the Survivalist's other caves, anything you store here is lost once you leave Zion.

How to get there

From Ranger Substation Osprey, head southeast down to the river; the entrance is on the bank east of the General Store.

Notable loot

  • Survival cache (raised platform near the terminal)
  • Year: 2097, Year: 2100 and Year: 2101 logs (terminal)
  • Workbench crate with a chance of skill books
  • Average-locked gun case that sometimes holds a multiplas rifle
  • Explosives boxes and supply sacks (east balcony)

Tips

  • With a good Lockpick skill, push through the brush to the right at a slight angle and open the Hard-locked door to skip the spore carriers entirely.
  • Cut the tripwire in the brush to disarm the rigged shotguns, and step around the two bear traps in front of it.
  • Snipe the spore carriers from the two ridges at the south end of the big chamber.
