Arcade Gannon
Old Mormon Fort in Freeside, working among the Followers of the Apocalypse tents.
Companion perk: Better Healing: While Arcade is a companion, you gain an additional 20% health from all consumable sources (food, drink and medical items).
Companion quest: For Auld Lang Syne
How to recruit: Go to the Old Mormon Fort in Freeside, near Freeside's north gate. Talk to Arcade, the Followers researcher in the lab coat, and offer him a place in your group. He joins if the Followers of the Apocalypse like you, if you finished High Times and Short-Term Treatment for Julie Farkas, if you pass a Speech 75 check, if you have the Confirmed Bachelor perk, or if your Intelligence is 3 or lower. He refuses if you have a positive Legion reputation or are wearing Legion faction armor.
Once Arcade trusts you he reveals that he grew up among the Enclave. He asks you to reunite the Enclave Remnants: Daisy Whitman in Novac, Judah Kreger in Westside, Orion Moreno at his house north of the NCR Sharecropper Farms, Cannibal Johnson in his cave, and Doctor Henry in Jacobstown. The group gathers at the Remnants Bunker, where you decide whether they fight at Hoover Dam for the NCR or for the Legion. Finishing the quest earns you a suit of Remnants power armor and Power Armor Training.
Arcade is an energy weapons user and a trained doctor. He leaves the party if you side with Caesar's Legion.

Craig Boone
Novac, in the mouth of Dinky the T-Rex (the sniper nest above the Dino Bite gift shop), on watch at night; Manny Vargas takes the day shift.
Companion perk: Spotter: While Boone is a companion, hostile targets are highlighted whenever you are actively aiming.
Companion quest: I Forgot to Remember to Forget
How to recruit: Travel to Novac and, at night during Boone's watch, climb through the Dino Bite gift shop into the sniper nest in Dinky the T-Rex's mouth. Off duty he refuses to talk. Agree to find the person in town who helped the Legion kidnap his wife Carla; this is the quest One for My Baby. Investigate the town. The culprit is Jeannie May Crawford, the motel owner; the bill of sale is in the Easy-locked safe behind the Dino Dee-lite front desk counter (pick it or pickpocket her key). Put on the beret Boone gives you and lead Jeannie May in front of the dinosaur while he is on watch at night. Boone takes the shot. Return to Boone and show him the bill of sale (or pass a Speech 55 check). Then offer to let him travel with you and he joins as a companion.
Boone carries guilt over his wife Carla and the Bitter Springs massacre. Fighting Caesar's Legion and completing anti-Legion tasks while he travels with you builds his trust. When he is ready he asks you to go with him to Bitter Springs, where he tells you what happened on Coyote Tail Ridge and you help defend the refugee camp from a Legion assault. Afterward he wears either 1st Recon survival armor or 1st Recon assault armor, depending on how he comes to terms with his past.
Former NCR 1st Recon sniper. Boone leaves the party if you build a positive reputation with Caesar's Legion.

ED-E
Primm, lying broken on the counter inside the Nash residence (the Mojave Express office).
Companion perk: Enhanced Sensors: While ED-E is a companion, you can detect enemies at an increased range, and enemies cloaked by Stealth Boys can be seen and targeted in V.A.T.S.
Companion quest: ED-E My Love
How to recruit: Travel to Primm and enter the Nash residence, the small building housing the Mojave Express office. Examine the broken eyebot on the counter. Repair it with a Repair skill of 65, a Science skill of 55 followed by a Repair check of 35, or by supplying three scrap metal, two sensor modules and two pieces of scrap electronics. ED-E activates and joins you immediately.
While ED-E travels with you, conversations with certain people around the Mojave trigger two recorded audio logs about the robot's past and its creator. Afterward two factions ask for ED-E: Senior Knight Lorenzo of the Brotherhood of Steel at the Hidden Valley bunker, and April Martimer of the Followers of the Apocalypse at the Old Mormon Fort. Hand ED-E over to one of them for a few days to receive an upgrade: the Brotherhood improves ED-E's armor, the Followers improve its laser weapon.
ED-E is a floating eyebot and occupies the non-humanoid companion slot, so it can travel with you alongside a human companion. It plays music and can carry extra gear.

Lily Bowen
Jacobstown, wandering near the lodge and the bighorner pens.
Companion perk: Stealth Girl: While Lily is a companion, Stealth Boys last much longer (their duration is increased by 200%) and your sneak attack critical hits deal 10% more damage.
Companion quest: Guess Who I Saw Today
How to recruit: Travel to Jacobstown in the mountains northwest of New Vegas. Talk to Doctor Henry in the lodge about his nightkin research. This starts Guess Who I Saw Today, and he suggests bringing Lily along against the night stalkers. Find Lily, the nightkin in the bonnet just outside the lodge door who calls you a grandchild, and ask her to come along. There are no skill or reputation checks.
Doctor Henry in Jacobstown is researching the schizophrenia that affects nightkin like Lily. He sends you to Charleston Cave to learn how the night stalkers there turn invisible, and you find a chewed Stealth Boy next to a dead nightkin. Henry then tests his Stealth Boy Mark II prototype on Lily, Keene and his nightkin burst in demanding the device, and you decide how that ends and whether the experiments continue. Separately, in an unmarked companion story Lily asks whether she should keep taking her medication at full dose, half dose, or stop entirely; that choice decides her ending.
Lily is a nightkin super mutant who fights with a vertibird blade and hears the voice of Leo, her other personality. She has very high health and strength.

Raul Tejada
Black Mountain, locked in a cell in the prison building at the summit, held prisoner by Tabitha. The cell door opens from the Very Hard-locked terminal next to it.
Companion perk: Regular Maintenance: While Raul is a companion, the rate at which your weapons and armor lose condition is reduced by 50%.
Companion quest: Old School Ghoul
How to recruit: Climb Black Mountain, the super mutant stronghold northeast of Goodsprings and east of Sloan (the quest Crazy, Crazy, Crazy covers this). Neil, a friendly super mutant you meet on the way up, can help you reach the top. At the summit, enter the prison building, the first building on the left inside Tabitha's compound, with its door on the south side. Open Raul's cell with the Very Hard-locked terminal next to it, either by hacking it or by using the password from entry 6 of Raul's diary on the unlocked terminal in the same room. Talk to Raul inside and ask him to join you.
Raul doubts whether an old man still has a place in the wasteland. With him in your party, speak to three ageing legends: Ranger Andy in Novac, Loyal at Nellis Air Force Base, and Corporal Sterling of 1st Recon (at Camp McCarran, or Camp Forlorn Hope after 1st Recon redeploys). Talk to Raul after each conversation. At the end he decides either to pick up his guns again (he gains Old Vaquero, a faster rate of fire with revolvers and lever-action rifles) or to stay a mechanic (his perk becomes Full Maintenance, slowing equipment decay by 75%).
Raul is a ghoul mechanic from Mexico who prefers revolvers. His home, Raul's Shack, is a separate marked location east of New Vegas.

Rex
King's School of Impersonation
The King's School of Impersonation in Freeside, at The King's side.
Companion perk: Search and Mark: While Rex is a companion, chems, firearms and ammunition within a short distance are highlighted when you zoom in to aim.
Companion quest: Nothin' But a Hound Dog
How to recruit: Go to the King's School of Impersonation in Freeside and talk to The King. Help him with his problems in the quest G.I. Blues to earn his trust. Ask about Rex. This starts Nothin' But a Hound Dog, and The King sends you to Julie Farkas at the Old Mormon Fort for advice. Report back that Doctor Henry in Jacobstown can help, and The King lets Rex join you for the trip.
Rex's brain is failing. Doctor Henry in Jacobstown can transplant a new brain from another dog. There are three donors: Rey, Old Lady Gibson's dog at the Gibson Scrap Yard (she sells the brain for 700 caps, or gives it up after a Barter check); Violetta, the dog of the Fiend leader Violet at her trailer compound near the Poseidon gas station; and Lupa, the Legion war dog you must defeat in the arena at The Fort. Rey's brain raises Rex's damage, Lupa's raises his Damage Threshold, and Violetta's raises his speed.
Rex is a cyberdog and fills the non-humanoid companion slot, so he can travel alongside a human companion. He hates rats and hats, and barks at anyone wearing a hat.

Rose of Sharon Cassidy
Mojave Outpost barracks, drinking at Lacey's bar.
Companion perk: Whiskey Rose: While Cass is a companion, whiskey no longer reduces your Intelligence, and drinking it gives both you and Cass a bonus to Damage Threshold.
Companion quest: Heartache by the Number
How to recruit: Travel to the Mojave Outpost on the far southwestern road and enter the barracks to find Cass at the bar. Start the Crimson Caravan quest You Can Depend on Me by speaking with Alice McLafferty at the Crimson Caravan Company, who wants to buy out Cassidy Caravans. Convince Cass to sell her caravan by passing a Speech or Barter check. With the deal done, ask her to come with you and she joins.
Cass wants to know who destroyed her caravan. Visit the wrecked caravans across the Mojave (Cassidy Caravans Wreckage, Griffin Wares Sacked Caravan and Durable Dunn's Sacked Caravan) and gather evidence that the Van Graffs and Alice McLafferty of the Crimson Caravan Company conspired to wipe out the competition. Then choose: kill Gloria Van Graff at the Silver Rush and Alice McLafferty at the Crimson Caravan with Cass (she gains the Hand of Vengeance perk, more damage with guns), or hand the evidence to the NCR at the Mojave Outpost for a peaceful resolution (she gains the Calm Heart perk, more health).
Usually called Cass. She is the daughter of John Cassidy, a companion from Fallout 2, and favours shotguns and whiskey.

Veronica Santangelo
188 Trading Post, standing near the merchant stalls in a brown hooded robe.
Companion perk: Scribe Assistant: While Veronica is a companion, you can craft workbench items anywhere through her dialogue menu; she acts as a portable workbench.
Companion quest: I Could Make You Care
How to recruit: Travel to the 188 Trading Post, at the highway junction northwest of Boulder City. Talk to Veronica, the woman in the hooded robe near the stalls, and accept her offer to travel together. She joins immediately with no requirements.
Veronica believes the Brotherhood of Steel must change or die. After she has seen enough of the Brotherhood's situation while travelling with you (including a visit to the Hidden Valley bunker), she asks you to find a piece of technology that could convince the Elder, such as the agricultural research data in Vault 22 or the pulse gun in Vault 34's armory. The Elder rejects it anyway. Veronica then considers joining the Followers of the Apocalypse at their outpost, and you influence her final choice: stay with the Brotherhood (she gains the Bonds of Steel perk) or leave it (she gains the Causeless Rebel perk).
Veronica is a Brotherhood of Steel scribe who fights unarmed with a power fist. Bringing her to Hidden Valley lets you enter the bunker as her guest.

Dog and GodDead Money
Chained in the large cell of the Villa police station, in the southwest of the Villa.
Companion perk: Ravenous Hunger (Dog) or In My Footsteps (God): Ravenous Hunger: Dog eats Ghost People that have been knocked down, so they cannot get back up. In My Footsteps: while God follows you, you gain +10 Sneak and cannot set off traps.
Companion quest: Put the Beast Down
How to recruit: Go to the Villa police station and turn off or shoot the radios on the upper floor. Head down into the basement, where God's voice guides you, and take the Dog Command Tape from the desk next to the radio in the last room. Play the tape in front of Dog's cell; God takes control and talks to you. Recruit God as he is, or play Elijah's recording to bring Dog back. Opening the cell completes Find Collar 8: "Dog".
In Fires in the Sky you bring him to the Salida del Sol switching station, where you can lock him in with the gate terminal, promise to feed Dog two ghost harvester remains, or manipulate God with Intelligence 7. After the Gala Event he turns up in the gas-filled Cantina Madrid kitchen, where you must shut three gas valves without him spotting you. A Speech 50 check talks him into snapping his own neck with his chain, Speech 75 lets the personality that favors you take over for good, and Speech 85 merges Dog and God into one mind for good Karma; you can also simply kill him. If he dies, take the maintenance pass from his body; if he lives, he hands it to you.
A nightkin with two personalities: hungry, simple Dog and cold, controlling God. You can switch between them at any time by playing the right recording, which also swaps the perk. Talk to Dog after watching him eat a Ghost Person to earn the Ghost Hunter perk; with the Cannibal perk you can get it as soon as you let him out of his cell. Like all Dead Money companions he cannot leave the Sierra Madre.

Dean DominoDead Money
His tall hideout in the Residential District, under strings of Christmas lights, drinking a Sierra Madre Martini by a makeshift bay window.
Companion perk: Unclean Living: Gives you about five seconds inside concentrated Cloud before it starts to hurt, instead of the usual one, and cuts Cloud damage by 25%.
Companion quest: Curtain Call at the Tampico
How to recruit: Enter the Residential District from the East Villa street. Reach his house either through the locked gate just inside the entrance (Lockpick 50, crosses some Cloud) or the trapped western route over the balconies. Sit in the chair beside him; he will not talk until you do. Agree to work with him; avoid the Barter option and insulting replies if you want to spare him later.
In Strike Up the Band he must be escorted to a rooftop in Puesta del Sol South and won't stay until you switch on two security holograms below him. After the Gala Event he hides backstage at the Tampico theater. You collect Vera's sheet music and backstage key, get past speakers and holograms, play the projector holotape, then face Dean. If you treated him well he shares his plan and lives; otherwise he must be killed for the key, and his collar forces you to flee the room within a minute.
A pre-War lounge singer who survived as a ghoul and has spent two centuries planning to rob the Sierra Madre. With the right dialogue he teaches the Sierra Madre Martini perk. He fights with his own 9mm pistol and wears the unique Dean's Tuxedo and Dean's Glasses. He sets off his own traps while following you.

ChristineDead Money
Trapped in a malfunctioning Auto-Doc at the end of the Auto-Doc wing in the Villa clinic.
Companion perk: Signal Interference: Her damaged collar delays your collar's warning beep by about five seconds near radios and speakers and adds about five more seconds before it detonates.
Companion quest: Last Luxuries
How to recruit: Go to the Villa clinic in the Medical District. Get the clinic basement key from a second-floor office (or pick the Lockpick 50 door) and cut the clinic power at the basement terminal to shut down the shielded speakers. Activate the malfunctioning Auto-Doc at the end of the Auto-Doc wing to release her. Talk her into joining, or threaten her for bad Karma, then take her along or send her to the fountain.
In Mixed Signals you take her to the switching station in Puesta del Sol North and fix the fuse box. She is terrified of the cramped bypass room below the maintenance elevator, so unlock the remote maintenance terminal (Very Hard hack or the password from Ennis's locker) instead of lying to her or forcing her down. After the Gala Event she waits in Vera Keyes' suite in the Executive Suites, now speaking in Vera's voice, which can later open the vault elevator. If you forced her down the elevator or threatened her with the Auto-Doc, she turns on you, the suite halls are rigged with shotgun traps, and she must be killed.
A Brotherhood of Steel knight of the Circle who came to the Sierra Madre hunting Father Elijah, and an old flame of Veronica. Her vocal cords were cut by the Auto-Doc, so she talks with gestures; high Perception and Intelligence help you understand her. With the right dialogue she teaches the Coin Operator perk for counterfeiting Sierra Madre Chips.
Honest Hearts2

Follows-ChalkHonest Hearts
Meets you on the rope bridge just past the Southern Passage during Arrival at Zion and guides you to Angel Cave, the Dead Horses' home, where he is based.
Companion perk: Well-Stacked Cairns: While Follows-Chalk is in your party, reaching certain summits in Zion (such as the ranger substations, the Spine, the Aerie and the Sun Sentinels) reveals nearby map markers and grants +3 Perception for three minutes.
Companion quest: Civilized Man's Burden
How to recruit: Start Honest Hearts and survive the White Legs ambush on the Happy Trails caravan at the Southern Passage. Run across the rope bridge; halfway over, Follows-Chalk kills a White Leg aiming at you. He joins automatically to guide you to Joshua Graham at Angel Cave. He stays available until Deliverer of Sorrows; recruiting Waking Cloud afterwards replaces him for good.
After Tourist Trap, ask Follows-Chalk why he is interested in civilization. He tells you about a travelling singer who came through Zion when he was a boy and admits he dreams of seeing the outside world, but is afraid to ask Joshua Graham. Joshua refuses to decide for him, so it falls to you to encourage Chalk to leave Zion after the war or tell him to stay with his tribe, which changes his ending.
A young Dead Horses scout who idolizes Joshua Graham and speaks the clearest English of his tribe. He also gives the side quest Bighorners of the Eastern Virgin. Do not mistake him for a White Leg when he first appears: killing him fails several quests and turns the Dead Horses hostile.

Waking CloudHonest Hearts
At the Sorrows camp in the Narrows, near Daniel.
Companion perk: Quiet As The Waters: While Waking Cloud is in your party, it is much easier to sneak past the White Legs, because their Perception is reduced by 3.
Companion quest: A Family Affair
How to recruit: Complete Gone Fishin', Roadside Attraction and Tourist Trap for Joshua Graham. Bring the supplies to Daniel at the Sorrows camp to finish Deliverer of Sorrows. Waking Cloud then offers to travel with you; accept her. She stays until Gathering Storms is resolved, then leaves for the rest of the add-on.
Waking Cloud suspects Daniel is hiding something about her family, who were evacuated from Zion. Daniel admits that her children survived but her husband died protecting them from a White Legs attack. You can tell her the truth, lie to her for a Karma loss, or promise Daniel to keep the secret. The choice affects her ending.
The Sorrows' midwife and one of Daniel's first converts, she fights with a yao guai gauntlet. Asking about it starts Rite of Passage with the shaman White Bird, and she can guide you into the Father's cave during The Grand Staircase. Recruiting her ends Follows-Chalk's time as a companion, and she leaves if you kill a friendly tribal.

ED-E (Lonesome Road)Lonesome Road
Hopeville silo bunker entrance
Deactivated in a robot pod on the south platform of the maintenance area inside the Hopeville missile silo bunker, next to its maintenance computer.
Companion perk: Enhanced Sensors: While ED-E is with you, you detect enemies at an increased range, and enemies cloaked by Stealth Boys can be seen and targeted in V.A.T.S.
Companion quest: The Silo
How to recruit: Enter the Divide through the canyon wreckage and open the Hopeville silo bunker entrance at the end of the cliff path. Use the wall terminal to open the south door of the wrecked control room and follow the path into the maintenance area. Use the maintenance computer next to the occupied robot pod to reactivate the eyebot. ED-E joins you automatically and stays with you until Ulysses takes it after the Cave of the Abaddon.
This ED-E is a copy of the Mojave eyebot, built by the Divide's automated factories, and it is a mandatory part of the Lonesome Road main quest. It interfaces with the military computers of the Divide: it unlocks the commissary terminals, lifts the Hopeville silo lockdown in The Silo and wakes the Ashton launch console in The Launch. Along the way it plays Doctor Whitley's recordings about the original ED-E's journey west. At the end of The Tunnelers, Ulysses seizes it with the override code Navarro. In The Courier you can free it from a pod in Ulysses' Temple, and in The End it can abort the missile launch, destroying itself in the process.
It only exists inside the Divide and is essential, even in Hardcore mode. Each of the five eyebot upgrade circuit boards found in the Divide gives a rank of the Camarader-E perk to both this ED-E and the original, unlocking weapon condition repair, energy cell manufacture, extra DT, beam damage and V.A.T.S. bonuses. It also gives access to workbench and reloading bench functions. Leaving it in its pod at Ulysses' Temple grants the Lonesome Road perk instead, but then the launch cannot be aborted. It does not clash with the Mojave ED-E, which you cannot bring into the Divide.
