Fire Root Cavern sits in the far southeast of the map, with its north entrance southeast of Searchlight East Gold Mine and its south side connecting to Cottonwood Crater. Inside is one large room around a radioactive pool, with a corridor and an overlooking ledge tying the lower entrance on the desert floor to an upper one that opens onto cliffs and another radioactive pool outside. It is said to be where the fire geckos come from.
Fire geckos fill the cave, along with a legendary fire gecko, so bring a weapon that drops them quickly and plenty of healing. At the tunnel intersection near the upper exit to Cottonwood Crater, half hidden among plants, sits the Evil Gnome statue, a fun pickup for collectors. A skeleton and a duffle bag rest near the southwest corner of the indoor pool, and a Hollowed-Out Rock sits left of the narrow path to the lower entrance.
Outside the upper entrance, a dead prospector lying in the radioactive pool carries a Fat Man along with other gear, which makes the climb worth it. The upper exit is also the practical route into Cottonwood Crater, so plan to cover both in one trip. Bring Rad-X and RadAway, because between the fire geckos and the contaminated water you will be taking damage from every direction.
How to get there
From Searchlight East Gold Mine, head southeast to the cave mouth on the desert floor.
