Stone Bones Cave sits on a ridge in the Narrows, north of the Sorrows camp and just northwest of Glass Chime Cave. Randall Clark moved here around 2096, and his two Year: 2096 logs are the darkest part of his story. A group of Vault 22 expeditioners entered Zion, killed the Mexican refugees he had been secretly watching over, and then ate the survivors. Clark answered with a months-long guerrilla war, ambushing patrols and booby-trapping their dead, until a patrol stumbled onto his camp and he had to flee south to Cueva Guarache.

The cave is still heavily trapped. A tripwire and grenade bouquet guard the first path, followed by three bear traps, another tripwire and a plasma mine behind a pot at the top of the slope. The right fork drops into a flooded cavern with water purifiers, another plasma mine and a shotgun trap, but nothing else of value. A second exit on the left also has a tripwire and grenade bouquet.

The left fork leads to Clark's camp: a workbench with a workbench crate, a reloading bench, explosives crates with 25mm grenades, and a terminal next to a bedroll on a raised platform. One of his six survival caches is tucked under the rock beside the bedroll, and the Desert Ranger combat armor and helmet he left behind wait at the back of the platform.

How to get there

Enter the Narrows north of the Sorrows camp and climb to the ridge just northwest of Glass Chime Cave.

Notable loot

  • Desert Ranger combat armor and helmet (back of the campsite platform)
  • Survival cache (beside the bedroll behind the reloading bench)
  • Year: 2096 and Year: 2096 (II) logs (terminal)
  • Workbench crate with a chance of skill books
  • Explosives crates with 25mm grenades

Tips

  • The first grenade bouquet drops behind you; step back into the entrance room for cover.
  • The Desert Ranger combat armor is one of the best medium armors in the game, so make this cave an early stop.
  • The camp works as a base during the add-on, but stored items vanish when you leave Zion.
