Next to Caterpillar's Mound
The Vault 22 camp is what is left of a camp made by the dwellers who fled Vault 22 and reached Zion in 2096. Randall Clark's journals tell how the 118 armed dwellers killed most of a group of Mexican refugees they found here and took the survivors prisoner, then lost 80 people to his ambushes and their fungal sickness before Overseer J. Hendricks ordered them out. A short barbed wire fence near the fire looks like it served as a prisoner pen.
The camp lies in a long canyon northwest of Caterpillar's Mound. Spore plants line the ridges on the southwest and north sides and dot the canyon floor, and spore carriers roam it. The campsite is a clearing at the west end, reached through a narrow gap between rocks, with log benches around a central campfire, two dead generators, toppled flood lights and many skeletons. A tribal painting marks a rock to the south, and a hollow log lies nearby.
Loot is light. A skeleton in the narrow passage has a pouch of healing powder, with a banana yucca fruit beside it that seems to have fallen from the ridge above. At the far western corner past the camp, another skeleton holds a sack of pre-War food and chems with a good chance of two stimpaks or a super stimpak, next to two bottles of purified water. The enemies respawn three days after you clear the area.
How to get there
From Caterpillar's Mound, head into the gorge to the northwest and follow it west to the gap between two rocks.
Notable loot
- Sack with pre-War food and chems, often stimpaks or a super stimpak (skeleton at the far western corner)
- Two bottles of purified water (same corner)
- Healing powder (skeleton in the narrow entrance passage)
Tips
- Do not confuse it with the marked Vault 22 dwellers' guard camp, which is in a canyon northeast of the Ghost Den.
- Keep an eye on the ridges above the canyon floor, which are lined with spore plants.
