Charleston Cave sits near the top of a snowy hill just northwest of Jacobstown, with a view down over the old ski resort and the desert below. It was discovered in the 1960s and later closed because the rock was unstable, and before the war one man secretly built a private fallout shelter deep inside. Today it is the nest of the night stalkers that prey on the bighorner herds Jacobstown's super mutants raise. You can usually hear them barking before you reach the entrance.
Inside is a dim maze of rock tunnels lit only by glowing mushrooms. Near the entrance is a chamber with two beds, a campfire and a locked ammo box, and beyond it a large cavern full of night stalkers, with a balcony overlooking it. A flooded section leads to the old shelter, sealed behind a Hard lock. That room holds the best haul in the cave: a hunting shotgun in good condition, consumables, ammunition and an audio log left by the shelter's owner.
Most players come here during Guess Who I Saw Today, when Doctor Henry wants proof that the night stalkers are not a natural mutation. Once the quest is running, a dead nightkin in the southwest cavern carries the chewed Stealth Boy Henry needs, and the unique Oh, Baby! super sledge lies right beside the body. The night stalkers here are cloaked and hard to see in the dark, so keep your Pip-Boy light on and carry plenty of stimpaks.
How to get there
From the Jacobstown gate, climb the snowy slope a short way to the northwest; the cave mouth overlooks the lodge.
