The Crashed B-29 is a pre-war bomber resting almost intact on the bottom of Lake Mead, a short swim out from the northern shore between Callville Bay and Lake Mead Cave. On the surface there is nothing but open water and the map marker, so most players never notice it until the Boomers point them here. Dive down and you will find the fuselage, wings and tail still in one piece, which is exactly why the Boomers want it so badly.

The site exists for the quest Volare!, given by Pearl at Nellis Air Force Base once you have earned enough fame with the Boomers. She sends you to Loyal, who hands you two ballast devices and a detonator. Jack can build you a rebreather if you pass a Science 45 check or bring him a pressure cooker. Attach a ballast under each wing, then swim to the marked spot on the Callville Bay shore and fire Loyal's detonator to float the bomber to the surface. Lakelurks swim in the area, so clear the shore first and keep your health up while diving.

How to get there

From Callville Bay follow the Lake Mead shoreline east toward Lake Mead Cave and swim out to the marker in the open water.

Tips

  • Get the rebreather from Jack at Nellis before diving (Science 45 or a pressure cooker); without it you will have to surface for air between the two wings.
  • Kill the lakelurks from the shore before you swim out; they are far harder to deal with in the water.
