The Eastern Virgin is the stretch of river in Zion's southeast corner where it splits from the main Virgin River. When Joshua Graham recruited the Dead Horses for the war against the White Legs, they set up their main camp here as a defensible spot. Follows-Chalk greets it with "House sweet house?" and, during Arrival at Zion, explains that the paintings on the rocks tell of Dead Horse victories, including a large one of Joshua executing his enemies with his pistol.

The lower level has a ruined dock, a few small boats with a sack, and a bighorner hide bed. Four bear traps beyond the entrance help keep White Legs out of the camp. The ridge above, reached through the upper exit of Angel Cave, holds two tents, more hide beds, a campfire with wooden benches and two Dead Horses. Follows-Chalk also warns about the traps hidden under the water as you enter the gorge leading to the camp.

The bighorner herds on the cliffs east of the camp are part of Bighorners of the Eastern Virgin, which Follows-Chalk gives you. Climb the slope, cross three rock bridges and find the lost calf in a narrow gorge, then feed it banana yucca fruit to lead it back to its mother. He rewards you with a .45 Auto pistol, a war club and .45 Auto hollow point rounds.

How to get there

From the Zion Valley Welcome Booth, turn north and go down the cliffs to the river.
