Fallen Rock Cave lies across from Angel Cave at the Dead Horses camp. Before the war a United States Geological Survey team worked here, and after the bombs fell Randall Clark hiked five days from Salt Lake City and sheltered deep inside, among the equipment the researchers left behind. His terminal holds the Year: 2077 and Year: 2078 entries, the first chapter of the Survivalist's story, written while he waited out the radiation and grieved for his wife and son.

The whole cave is a trap gauntlet. Mines and tripwires connected to rigged shotguns line the passages, often next to boxes of ammunition, a mine hides behind a teddy bear at the entrance to the central room, and the east exit back to the Eastern Virgin has a tripwire and a grenade bouquet you have to jump to reach. A skeleton to the east carries a recharger pistol.

The campsite chamber holds the real prizes. The unique Compliance Regulator laser pistol is hidden behind an open wooden box with energy cells, one of Randall Clark's six survival caches sits to the left of the terminal, and a workbench crate can hold skill books. With a workbench, reloading bench and campfire side by side, the cave makes a good base during Honest Hearts, but anything stored here is lost when you leave Zion.

How to get there

From the Dead Horses camp, look across from the Angel Cave entrance; a second entrance opens onto the Eastern Virgin.

Notable loot

  • Compliance Regulator (campsite chamber, behind an open wooden box)
  • Survival cache (left of the terminal in the campsite chamber)
  • Year: 2077 and Year: 2078 logs (terminal)
  • Workbench crate with a chance of skill books
  • Recharger pistol (on a skeleton in the eastern passages)

Tips

  • Move slowly and disarm as you go; the traps continue all the way through the cave.
  • Ammunition boxes sit next to many of the shotgun traps, so disarming them pays off.
  • Empty your storage here before Departing Paradise, items left in Zion caves disappear.
