Matthews Animal Husbandry Farm is an abandoned livestock operation roughly halfway between the Raided Farmstead to the north and the Crashed Vertibird to the south. Two run-down barns face east, one holding malnourished bighorners and the other malnourished brahmin, with more calves in pens beside them. Across from the barns stand the ruins of the burnt farmhouse, and two graves lie to the southeast. None of the animals here are a threat.

The farm's story is told through four torn diary pages spread across the barns, the back of a truck and the burnt farmhouse. They were written by the last person living here, a child whose parents went to Camp Searchlight for supplies and never returned, until the child went looking and found them turned into feral ghouls. Read them in order for one of the bleakest little stories in the southern Mojave, and look for the small skeleton in the farmhouse ruins.

The practical reason to stop is the top floor of the northern barn, which holds a Wasteland Survival Guide skill book and a Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottle cap on a crate beside some empty Sunset bottles. It is a quick, safe detour between Nipton and Camp Searchlight, and one of the two graves can be dug up if you carry a shovel.

How to get there

From the Raided Farmstead, head south until you reach the pair of barns.
