The X-8 research center was Big MT's biomechanical lab, where scientists built cyberdogs and the K9000 cyberdog gun. Doctor Borous turned his own dog Gabe into a cyberdog and sealed him inside. When a shipment of nightstalkers arrived in place of ordinary test dogs, they killed the shipping staff and the facility was locked down. Inside you meet lobotomites, cyberdogs, nightstalkers, hall monitors, robobrains, protectrons, Mister Orderly units and robo-scorpions.
Doctor Klein sends you here during Welcome to the Big Empty for X-8: High School Horror!. First you run the Basic Institutional Data Retrieval Test, a replica high school with classrooms, a library and a coach's office, and pull three student records from desk terminals. That unlocks the Advanced test, where a data terminal in the test lobby gives the EM pulse wave upgrade that lets your Sonic emitter knock down Big MT force fields, and the Residential Cyberdog Guard Test, a cave yard where Gabe patrols and one of several dirt mounds hides the Audio Sample: Gabriel's Bark.
A Brain's Best Friend also sends you here to deal with Gabe for Doctor Borous. Down the left hallway from the entrance, the X-8 splicing facility terminal can combine creatures using holotapes found here, and splicing a dog and a robot creates Roxie, a cyberdog who follows you only inside this facility. A full set of combat armor, FIDO upgrade schematics and cyberdog blueprints round out the loot, and the kennel key comes from the X-13 research facility.
How to get there
Head east from the Think Tank to the eastern side of the crater; X-8 sits just east of the X-7b Boom Town target zone and northeast of the Y-17 medical facility.
