The 188 Trading Post has grown up on and under a highway overpass where two major roads come together east of New Vegas. It is one of the busiest independent stops in the Mojave: NCR troopers pass through, caravans rest and a cluster of merchants has set up to serve them. Everyone travelling between Vegas, Boulder City and the southern towns ends up here sooner or later, which makes it a good place to hear the latest news.
The 188 is where you meet Veronica Santangelo, the Brotherhood of Steel scribe who can join you as a companion and whose quest I Could Make You Care explores the Brotherhood's future. Michelle Kerr (by day) and her father Samuel (by night) run the 188 Slop & Shop, where Samuel also repairs gear. The Arms Merchant sells weapons and armor from the back of a military truck on the western side of the overpass, Alexander of the Gun Runners trades under the bridge if you pass a Guns check, and the Forecaster, a boy with a strange gift, sells three cryptic thoughts for 100 caps each.
There is no real danger at the 188 itself unless you are at war with the NCR, whose troops keep the place in order. Come for Veronica, for the weapons, and for a central fast travel point that puts Boulder City, Vault 11, HELIOS One and Camp Golf all within easy reach. It is one of the most useful markers on the eastern half of the map.
How to get there
Follow Highway 95 southeast from New Vegas past the Grub n' Gulp Rest Stop; the market is under the highway overpass at the junction.
