The Forbidden Zone dome entrance was once the X-42 Robo-Warfare facility, and since his exile it has been the lair of Doctor Mobius, the scientist who sends robo-scorpions across the crater and taunts the Think Tank over the radio. The door stays locked until Doctor Klein sends you here in the main quest Old World Blues. The workshop is a huge room with protectrons, turrets, target drones and robo-scorpions, and above it is a decayed copy of the Think Tank dome covered in Mobius' notes and formulas.
On a central cargo elevator in the workshop waits the X-42 giant robo-scorpion. Terminals around the room can weaken it, and you can switch on the backup generator, turrets and target drones to fight it, or shut it down through the balcony terminal and the emergency shutdown password near the protectron pods. Inside the dome you meet Mobius himself and learn the truth about his robo-scorpions and broadcasts, and you can talk your way through or fight him and the robo-scorpions he summons.
At the top of the dome stairs, your own brain sits in a brain tank, and you have to convince it to come home. The dome also holds Dr. Mobius' glove on a table beside the central stairs and Dr. Mobius' scrubs in a trunk next to it, plus LAERs and a stash of Mentats. On the second floor of the workshop, the Audio Sample: Mobius' Robo-Scorpion for Field Research lies on the center desk in front of the north exit.
