The High Road is a ruined pre-War highway and one of the few passable routes left between the old towns of Hopeville and Ashton. You reach it from the collapsed overpass tunnel at the start of The Launch, and Ulysses immediately speaks through ED-E again. He warns that the deathclaws ahead are meaner and tougher than the Mojave kind, tells you the tunnelers are spreading, and explains that the way on runs through the Ashton silo, which only ED-E can open.

At the top of the first streets, Beast and a few marked men ambush you. Beast wields a shoulder mounted machine gun and wears the unique marked beast face helmet. Behind his camp, a commissary terminal sits on the back of a military truck, ready for ED-E to unlock, with satchel charge boxes nearby. Near a fallen hospital sign, look toward the large building right of the Crow's Nest and you may spot Ulysses watching you before he walks out of sight. He cannot be harmed there.

Past the Crow's Nest the road becomes deathclaw country, with several around the ruined highway interchange and more near the end. The highway finally splits: a rubble-strewn off-ramp mined with hidden satchel charges leads past Bonesaw's camp to the Ashton silo control station, while a dirt slope drops down to the Junction 7 rest stop and the snow globe. Both branches are worth walking before you commit to Ashton.

How to get there

Walk out of the collapsed overpass tunnel under the High Road sign; the marked men camp of Beast is just east of the entrance.

  • Marked beast face helmet (worn by Beast)

Tips

  • The off-ramp to Ashton is lined with hidden satchel charges; watch for the red highlight and disarm them or shoot them from range.
  • Carry a flare gun: deathclaws, like tunnelers, run from flares.
  • ED-E's Enhanced Sensors show deathclaws on your compass long before you see them, which makes sneak attacks easier.
