The Highway 95 Viper's Encampment is a roadside camp set up by the Vipers, one of the Mojave's smaller raider gangs, on the highway south of Novac. The Vipers are leftovers of a once larger tribe and now survive by ambushing travelers on the lonely roads of the southern wasteland. Their camp here is a cluster of outdoor shelters with makeshift beds within sight of the highway.
Expect four or five Vipers armed with a mix of melee weapons and cheap guns. They are not a serious threat to a prepared mid level character but can surprise a low level Courier walking the highway. Golden geckos roam this stretch too, so you may arrive to find the Vipers already fighting them, or already dead. Fighting from the road with a rifle picks them apart before they close. The shelters hold ammunition and supplies, plus a Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottle cap on a bedroll in the central shelter.
No quest sends you to the camp, but clearing it makes the highway between Novac and Camp Searchlight safer for your own return trips and gives decent early experience. The fast travel marker is also handy for reaching Clark Field, the Wrecked Highwayman and Ranger Station Charlie, which lies to the west across the hills. The Vipers respawn every three days, so the camp can be farmed on later visits.
How to get there
Follow Highway 95 south from Novac; the camp is beside the road on the way toward Camp Searchlight.
Tips
- Snipe from the road before the Vipers close in.
- Loot their bedrolls and footlockers for ammunition and chems.
