The Wrecked Highwayman is a rusted out Chryslus Highwayman sinking into the ground just off Highway 95 south of Novac, southeast of the Highway 95 Viper's Encampment and between Clark Field and the Snyder prospector camp. For longtime fans the car is instantly recognizable as the vehicle the Chosen One drove across California in Fallout 2, and finding it abandoned in the Mojave is one of the game's quieter references to the older titles in the series.

The wreck itself is the attraction. Only the trunk still shows, and it holds a footlocker of random loot plus loose microfusion cells, energy cells, scrap metal, empty Sunset Sarsaparilla bottles and a Sunset Sarsaparilla star cap. The main risks are bloatflies and the Vipers from the camp to the northwest, who may spot you if you approach from the highway. Nothing here should trouble a mid level character, but keep an eye on the ridgelines all the same.

There is no quest and no NPC at the Highwayman, so this is purely for explorers, series veterans and completionists. The marker helps when you are working through the hills between Novac, Clark Field and the road south to Camp Searchlight, since it gives you a fast travel point on the stretch of Highway 95 south of Novac. Take a moment to look it over if you played the older games; the detail is worth it.

How to get there

South of Novac; from the Highway 95 Viper's Encampment head southeast into the hills.

Tips

  • Check the trunk.
  • Vipers from the camp to the northwest may spot you.
