Novac is a small town on Highway 95 in the southeastern Mojave, named after the broken No Vacancy sign on its motel. The landmark is Dinky the T-Rex, a huge fiberglass dinosaur that houses Cliff Briscoe's gift shop and doubles as a sniper's perch overlooking the road. Jeannie May Crawford runs the motel, and a small community of residents scrapes by on trade and scavenging from the nearby REPCONN Test Site.
Two of the game's best quests start here. One for My Baby begins when you talk to Craig Boone, the ex NCR sniper standing watch in the dinosaur's mouth at night, who wants to know who sold his wife to the Legion. Solving it earns you Boone as a companion. Come Fly With Me starts with Manny Vargas or the ranting No-bark Noonan and sends you to help the ghouls at the REPCONN Test Site launch their rockets. Ranger Andy, a retired ranger, can teach you the Ranger Takedown move.
Novac is neutral and safe. Jeannie May rents you a motel room for 100 caps, or gives it to you free once your Novac reputation reaches Accepted, which Come Fly With Me and the town's other quests help with, making it the first real home base for many playthroughs. Cliff Briscoe sells weapons and supplies, and the town sits on Highway 95 between the 188 and the southern road to Camp Searchlight, so you will pass through it constantly.
