Ranger Station Charlie

Ranger Station Charlie sits southwest of Novac and east of Harper's Shack, one of six NCR ranger stations in the Mojave. Before the War it was the Shady Pines Trailer Park; the rangers piled up trailers and wrecked cars into a makeshift fortress, with the radio room and barracks in the old park office. Comm Officer Stepinac runs things while Ranger Beaumont is out on patrol, and the station's job is keeping the highway up through Novac civilized.

Charlie is where things go dark. Once you agree to check on the station for Ranger Andy in Novac, or once Render Unto Caesar is active, or after you kill Caesar, the Legion massacres the rangers. Inside you find booby traps: frag mines under the two bodies in the first room, and a tripwire shotgun in the bunk room aimed at fire extinguishers in front of a bottlecap mine. Two audio logs left by the Legion claim the attack and say they took a hostage. For Return to Sender you only need to give Stepinac the new radio codes; if the station is already wiped out, that objective completes on its own.

Before the massacre, Charlie is a quiet NCR post where everything is owned, so taking things costs Karma. Afterward you can loot the dead for ranger gear, and an Average locked floor safe under one of the bunk beds holds ammunition, caps, Rad-X and stimpaks. Either way it is a convenient fast travel point southwest of Novac, close to Harper's Shack and the Primm Pass area.
