Dry Wells lies across the river in Arizona. Before the war it was a U.S. Army encampment. Later it became a stronghold of the Twisted Hairs, Ulysses' tribe, and it is where Vulpes Inculta betrayed them and Caesar's Legion swallowed the tribe. By 2281 legionaries under the centurion Gaius Magnus held it. You can only go there if The Apocalypse sent the Divide's missiles at Legion territory, alone or together with the NCR.

You arrive on the Boat to Dry Wells from Cottonwood Cove. A road climbs from an irradiated stretch of river past burned tents and crumbling buildings to a large crater, and stepping into it means instant death. Irradiated legionaries and Legion explorers, some of them cloaked by Stealth Boys, hold the ruins together with Gaius Magnus in the unique Armor of the 87th Tribe. Near the crater the radiation reaches 35 rads per second.

The loot is generous. Under a burned tent on the cliff by the broken western tower, a gun case holds the Red Victory grenade rifle and the Missing shipment note, with two lead-lined metal boxes beside it. Three high-tech gun cases sit in ruined buildings, and a metal box on a ledge south-southeast of the crater holds random advanced armor. Killing the irradiated legionaries still gives Legion infamy.

How to get there

Take the red Boat to Dry Wells on the eastern shore of Cottonwood Cove, near Cursor Lucullus's dock.

Notable loot

  • Armor of the 87th Tribe (worn by Gaius Magnus)
  • Red Victory grenade rifle (gun case under the burned tent by the western tower)

  • Three high-tech gun cases (ruined buildings)
  • Random advanced armor (metal box on a ledge south-southeast of the crater)

Tips

  • Lure the irradiated legionaries back toward the docks; near the crater they regenerate very fast.
  • Kills here add Legion infamy, which matters if you hold the Mark of Caesar.
  • Companions can travel with you to Dry Wells, unlike most add-on areas.
