Quarry Junction is a limestone quarry beside the I-15 north of Sloan, and the single most dangerous spot a new player can wander into. The pit and its ramps are home to a large pack of deathclaws, including a Deathclaw Alpha Male and a Deathclaw Mother guarding a nest. They are fast, they hit for massive damage, and the quarry floor leaves nowhere to hide. Sloan's workers abandoned the site for good reason.

Come back in the mid to late game with heavy armor, a high-damage weapon and companions, or with a careful sniping plan from the rim of the pit. Rewards include a Fat Man by a skeleton in the southern pool, two mini nukes, a light machine gun and a super stimpak in the den, and the pile of deathclaw eggs that Jas Wilkins in Sloan wants for her recipe. Clearing the quarry also makes the I-15 a much safer route between Goodsprings and the Vegas outskirts, though a stray deathclaw can still turn up on the edges.

How to get there

From Sloan follow the I-15 north; the quarry pit is on the west side of the highway just past the town.

Notable loot

  • Deathclaw eggs for Jas Wilkins's recipe

Tips

  • Avoid entirely until the mid or late game; the deathclaws here are among the fastest killers in the Mojave.
  • Snipe from the rim with a high-damage rifle and retreat to the road if they close in.
  • Clearing the quarry opens the I-15 as a safe shortcut between Goodsprings and the Vegas outskirts.
