Sloan

Sloan is a small company town on the I-15 northeast of Goodsprings, where the workers from the Quarry Junction limestone operation eat, sleep and wait. They are waiting because deathclaws have taken over the quarry, and after the Powder Gangers stole their dynamite there is no way to clear them out. Chomps Lewis, the foreman, will tell you the whole sorry story and warn you not to take the highway north toward Vegas.

The town has a mess hall, worker barracks with two skill books, a mining office and a machine shop with a workbench. Jas Wilkins, the camp cook and Sloan's only merchant, wants a deathclaw egg for her aunt's wasteland omelet, and Snuffles the pet mole rat limps around needing a Medicine 30 check on his leg. Chomps will reward you for clearing the deathclaws out of Quarry Junction in Claws Out, and the badly assembled generator outside the mining office can be repaired.

Sloan itself is safe, but the road just north runs past the quarry, and walking behind the mining office can draw the deathclaw alpha male toward the town. Do not follow the highway toward Vegas at low level; take the long way south through Primm and Nipton as the game intends. Sloan is a good rest stop when you finally come back with the gear to tackle the quarry.
