Camp Forlorn Hope is the NCR's front line position against the Legion on the east side of the Mojave, built on a small mesa above the Colorado River a short march north of Nelson. The name fits. Morale is low, supplies run short and the medical tent is overflowing with wounded, because the Legion took Nelson and has been bleeding the camp with raids ever since. Major Polatli commands and is trying to hold it together.
Few places offer as many quests. In Restoring Hope, Major Polatli has you help his officers first, recovering a lost supply shipment for Quartermaster Mayes and treating wounded troopers for Dr. Richards, before you join the assault on Nelson. Dr. Richards' Medical Mystery deals with medical supplies going missing, Tech Sergeant Reyes starts Return to Sender, the chain that uncovers the truth about Chief Hanlon's reports, and No, Not Much, a quest from Captain Gilles at Bitter Springs, sends you here to ask Polatli for reinforcements. Legion players, in We Are Legion, come here instead to kill the camp's officers.
If the NCR likes you, Forlorn Hope is a safe place to trade with the quartermaster and get treatment from Dr. Richards. Legion raids from Nelson still hit the perimeter, so keep an eye on the southern approach. The camp connects neatly to Ranger Station Delta to the north and the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker to the southeast, and it is the natural base for the whole Nelson storyline.
How to get there
From the 188 Trading Post follow Highway 95 south past El Dorado Gas & Service, then turn southeast toward the Colorado; the camp sits in the valley north of Nelson.
