Legate Lanius's fortified camp east of Hoover Dam, reachable only during the final battle. Face or outtalk the Monster of the East.

The Legate's Camp is the forward base of Legate Lanius, the Legion's supreme field commander, built in the hills on the eastern bank of the Colorado above Hoover Dam. It is a hard military camp of tents, palisades and praetorian guards rather than a settlement, and it exists for one purpose: the assault on the dam. You cannot reach it during normal play; the area only opens up in the final battle.

If you fight for the NCR, Mr. House or an independent Vegas, the camp is the last stop of the game. You push through the Legion's defenders to Lanius's tent and either kill him in a brutal fight or talk him into withdrawing, which demands a very high Speech skill or some sharp reasoning about the Legion's overstretched supply lines. Legion players instead meet Lanius here as an ally before the final push against the NCR.

Prepare for the camp as you would any boss encounter: full health, your best armor and ammunition, and companions you trust. Lanius hits extremely hard with his blade and his guards will not stand idle, so thin them out before you commit to the duel. Winning here, by words or by force, ends the main story, so finish side content before you start the battle for Hoover Dam.

How to get there

Only reachable during the final battle at Hoover Dam; follow the fighting east across the dam and up the hill on the far bank.

Tips

A very high Speech skill lets you talk Lanius into retreating without a fight.
Clear the praetorians before engaging Lanius; his blade hits extremely hard.
